It was patented in 1996 by Edward Sisler and Sylvia Blankenship together on the utilization of cyclopropenes, in this case 1-MCP to repress ethylene activity. Commercialization of 1-MCP for maximimizing yields and reducing post-harvest wastage, was attempted by Floralife, Inc under the brand of EthylBloc. It is scientifically proven to be non-toxic and is applied in very low concentrations, under proper storage conditions.
